FITNESS AND HEALTH
Beginning in September 2010, Rashi’s physical education program will be known as Fitness and Health. A new curriculum will be implemented with updated standards and practices that follow more closely the national standards. Changes include:
- Students in grades K-1 will have four 25-minute fitness and health classes each week.
- Students in grades 5-8 will have the opportunity to participate once a week in a fitness and health elective where they can choose from a variety of specific physical activities.
- Grade 8 will have personal fitness planning, where students can use what they have learned to design, implement and assess an individual plan to achieve their fitness and health goals.
Rashi’s Fitness and Health curriculum is enhanced by optional team sports (see Athletics). Through our Extended Day program, students in grades K-3 may participate in sports such as soccer, ultimate Frisbee and flag football.
