LEARNING SUPPORT

Our goal is for all Rashi students to gain the knowledge and skills that are listed in our curriculum map at a pace that is at once comfortable and challenging to them. To this end, we have seven learning specialists working at Rashi who can provide extra support to students in reading, writing, spelling, handwriting, math, organizational skills, and subject-area learning.

Our team includes a learning support coordinator, learning specialists, a school psychologist, an occupational therapist, math learning specialist, and a consultant from Gateways (see below). Having these professionals means that, when needed, the ratio of teachers to students in the classroom is even better so that the curriculum is tailored to individual student needs.

The Rashi “Learning Team” meets weekly to communicate and plan with parents of students who receive services. The Learning Team regularly consists of the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, the School Rabbi, the Coordinator of Learning Support Services for Lower School, the Coordinator of Learning Support Services for Middle School, and the School Psychologist. Teachers, parents, learning specialists, and outside consultants are invited to individual meetings. Rashi faculty and the parents work in partnership to best meet the needs of the students.

The school also enjoys a partnership with Gateways (formerly, Jewish Special Education Collaborative), which provides Rashi teachers with resources and strategies to match the individual learning profiles of our students. Gateways consultants can help identify outside providers who offer services beyond the scope of the Rashi program.
