Tamchui Purim Philanthropy

The Rashi community raised more than $8000 to aid the five child-centered organizations that were the focus of the 2008 Tamchui project. “It feels awesome to help people in need,” students said. “You get to do a mitzvah around the whole world.”

The project was featured in The Jewish Advocate.

MLK Family Service Day

More than 100 Rashi students, parents, and teachers participated in the Family Service Day honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. They assembled birthday boxes for homeless children, made more than fifty fleece scarves to be donated to a local shelter, composed political action letters to send to elected government officials, and collaborated on a mural depicting the “Ten Rights of a Child.”

The project was featured in The Jewish Advocate.

Traveling Theatre Troupe

Rashi’s “Traveling Theatre Troupe” is on the road, bringing songs and skits to preschools in Greater Boston. The sixth grade troupe members perform their original “Slumber Party” musical, which includes such preschool favorites as “The Wheels on the Bus”, the “Aleph-Bet Song”, and an original version of “Rubber Duckie” retitled “Rashi School You’re the One.”

As the students entertain the preschoolers, parents have the opportunity to meet the Rashi Admissions staff and learn more about the school. The troupe is traveling to Gan Yeladim in Newton, Temple Beth Shalom in Needham, Temple Beth Elohim in Wellesley, Temple Israel in Boston, and JCC preschools.

Celebrating Israel

Rashi's celebration of Yom Ha'atzmaut - Israel Independence Day - was a day was filled with activities for students in grades K-8 including: Israeli dancing, face painting with Dead Sea "mud," creating and assembling jigsaw puzzles based on Israeli cities, learning about Israeli music, and a school-wide assembly highlighted by the presentation of photos from the Rashi eighth graders' recent trip to Israel.

Eighth Graders Experience Israel

Rashi’s second annual Grade 8 Israel Trip was a success for students and teachers in two countries! Rashi students strengthened their connection with their peers at The Leo Baeck School in Haifa as they traveled with them throughout Israel.

Our eighth graders experienced Shabbat in Jerusalem, floating in the Dead Sea, eating dinner in a Bedouin tent, climbing Masada, riding camels, visiting Mount Herzl, Yad Vashem and Ein Gedi, and much more. They used the experience as an opportunity to think deeply about their personal Jewish identities and discuss what it means to be an American Jew and the importance of our relationships with Israelis.

Rashi is thrilled to provide our students with an educational trip to Israel that not only offers learning and spiritual experiences, but also the magic of making new friends in Israel and forging relationships that can last for a lifetime.
