SIMCHA & SADNESS

Anyone who has ever faced a serious illness, major surgery, or a death or a happy event such as the birth of a baby or a family move knows that the need to be a part of a community is greatest during these times.

Rashi has a very active and dedicated Simcha and Sadness Committee, which provides our community with a web of support during difficult or blessed times.  Committee members provide meals and support during a crisis and welcome new members to our community – whether they be new Rashi families or newborn members of current Rashi families.  The committee also helps to organize ongoing support to help the family in whatever way the family wishes.  It is our strong belief that each family needs to be recognized in its own way, and we do our best to provide support while maintaining the dignity and privacy of the family.

The members of the committee do their acts of hesed (good deeds) with a great deal of love, discretion, and energy. They do whatever is feasible to alleviate some of the stress experienced by members of our community in times of need. Many people who have received our support later reciprocate by providing assistance to others.

The Rashi family understands that Kol Yisrael arayvim zeh bazeh, all of Israel is responsible for one another. By modeling these examples of loving-kindness and thoughtfulness, we teach our children the basics of being a mensch. Our children can bring this kindness along with their secular and Hebrew skills into their adult lives.
