2013 Honorees

Marilyn and Dale Okonow

Alumni Parents Marilyn and Dale Okonow

Rashi is proud to honor Marilyn and Dale Okonow, our longtime supporters and Rashi alumni parents to Hannah ('05), and Ben, with the "Kehillah Award". Dale is a partner of The Watermill Group, a private equity investment and management firm. He serves on the Board of Trustees of CJP, Jewish Family & Children's Service (JF&CS) of Greater Boston, The Rashi School, Friends of Yemin Orde Youth Village in Israel and Temple Beth Elohim. He also serves on the Hematology/Oncology visiting committee of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Board of Directors of the iF Foundation. Marilyn, a music educator, was instrumental in developing a music curriculum for the Rashi School, and was responsible for creating the position of full-time music educator at Rashi. She is currently the musical director for two choruses: The Tremble Clefs, a chorus of Parkinson's patients and their caregivers, which is part of the JF&CS Parkinson's Family Support Program, and the NewBridge Chorus at NewBridge on the Charles. She is also the Outreach Coordinator for the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Boston. She is on the Board of Directors of the Vilna Shul/Boston's Center for Jewish Heritage and serves on the Hematology/Oncology visiting committee of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the JF&CS Board of Advocates.

Jeff Swartz

Keynote Speaker: Jeff Swartz,
Former President and CEO, The Timberland Company

Jeff spent the last 26 years at The Timberland company, a global brand of footwear and apparel, the last 15 years as CEO. He was the third generation of his family to lead the Company. Having sold the business to VF Corporation in September 2011, Jeff now primarily focuses his time on sustainable social change, both in Israel and in the United States. He received his MBA from Dartmouth in 1984, and a BA in Comparative Literature from Brown in 1982. In the US, Jeff chairs Yeshivat Rambam/Maimonides in Brookline, and he serves on the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. In Israel, he helped found and chairs MAOZ-SEAL, a leadership program aimed at transforming Israeli civic society, and he serves on the board of haShomer haChadash, a Zionist educational program.
