The Annual Dinner

Celebrating Rashi

On Wednesday, May 16, more than 475 guests attended The Rashi School's 2018 Annual Dinner at our new venue, the Boston Marriott Newton Hotel. This year's dinner honored Heidi and Lew Pearlson (parents of Harrison '14 and Joshua '17) with the Kehillah Award in recognition of their leadership and ongoing commitment to Rashi and the Greater Boston Jewish community.

With poise and confidence, our Eighth Graders took on an expanded role at this year's dinner. Leah K. and Jeremy G. delivered the keynote addresses that focused on contemporary Israel and the centrality of religion and community in Jewish identity. They were followed by classmates Danielle F., Estelle F., Maris B., and Henry N., who introduced various segments of the program.

The 2018 Tikkun Alum Award

Liza Comart '06 received our 2018 Tikkun Alum Award. Recipients of the award are recognized for their dedication to social justice beyond their years at Rashi. They serve as role models and heroes to our students when we invite them to spend the day here at the school to teach about their work.

Liza sent a video message from Greece, where she is working with refugees. Her father, Kim Comart, accepted the award from Head of School Mallory Rome on her behalf.

Special Guests

Remarks by CJP President Barry Shrage paid tribute to honorees Heidi and Lew Pearlson, as did a surprise video message from friends and family.

The evening also included a musical collaboration produced especially for the dinner by alumna Tal Chafetz '15, alumni parent Jodi Blankstein, and current parent Adam Dehner.

Serving as proof of the vibrancy of our growing alumni association, more than 30 alumni attended the celebration!
Many thanks to so many Rashi supporters for their generous and ongoing support of the school!

The Kehillah Award Honorees

Rashi proudly announces our 2018 Kehillah Award honorees, alumni parents Heidi and Lew Pearlson. Heidi and Lew are the proud parents of two Rashi alumni, Joshua '17 and Harrison '14, both who attend The Rivers School.

Heidi and Lew Pearlson truly embody Rashi’s core values and have contributed to our community over many years with their time, effort, heart, and soul.

They have served, and continue to serve, in many leadership roles at The Rashi School and have had a genuine impact on its development and success. Heidi currently serves as a member of the Budget and Finance and Executive Committees of the Board of Trustees and is immediate past Board Treasurer.

Lew has served on the Rashi Development Committee and volunteered his time in Athletics. Over the years, they have opened their home and graciously hosted countless parent socials and gatherings where all have felt welcome.

At sporting events, they have cheered for every child participating and warmly greeted every family. Their ruach shines as an example for our entire community.

Heidi and Lew are also dedicated to our broader Jewish community and hold leadership positions in Combined Jewish Philanthropies (CJP), Jewish Family & Children's Service (JF&CS), Facing History and Ourselves, and more.
