Message from the Head of School

Welcome to Rashi!
 
As you explore our website, I hope you’ll see much of what makes Rashi such an exciting place to learn: Rich academics that challenge every student to grow; purposeful connections between subjects that reflect the complexity of the wider world; unique and renowned social justice and multigenerational programs that ask students to consider who they are, what they believe, and how they engage with others.
 
Our educational philosophy is an outgrowth of our tradition as a Reform Jewish day school, with an emphasis on rigorous learning through deep study, active questioning, and engaged dialogue. Whether our students are grappling with ancient texts or building robots, writing essays or creating films, performing Shakespeare or a Hebrew play, the pairing of our intellectual and spiritual traditions and the innovation and curiosity that fill our classrooms makes for a powerful learning environment, one that nurtures our students to know that how they act matters as much as how they think.
 
Indeed, student leadership lies at the heart of our program. We seek to graduate the next generations of leaders, grounded in their heritage, supported by their community, and passionate about making a difference. The close relationships between students and teachers play an essential role in developing each student’s voice. Rashi alumni comment on how well-prepared they were for high school and college; on the community they found at Rashi; on the twinned emphasis on leadership and social justice. They speak of it as a place of meaning and learning that helped them grow into their adult selves.

  • About Mallory Rome

    Mallory Rome earned her BA in English and History at Yale University; MA in History at Stanford University; and Ed. M. in Education Leadership with a focus in private school leadership at Teachers College, Columbia University, where she was a Klingenstein Fellow.

    Ms. Rome brings nearly 20 years of independent and Jewish day school experience in the US and overseas. From 2008 to 2015, she was the Assistant Head of School at the Jewish Community High School of the Bay in San Francisco, where she served on the Senior Leadership Team and led significant innovations in course design, technology, and student support. Prior to this, Ms. Rome was a teacher and administrator at the Commonwealth School, an independent secondary school in Boston. Ms. Rome started her career teaching in England and Australia.
