Critical Minds, Compassionate Hearts
At Rashi, Kindergarten and First are our most common entry grades, but each year we welcome new students in almost every grade. Families sometimes find that the school choices they make for their children at one stage in their lives cease to make sense as the children grow or as family priorities change. We encourage you to explore all that Rashi offers and see for yourself if Rashi makes sense for your family.

Transitioning to a new school

Each year as we welcome new students and their families into the Rashi community across all grades, we do everything we can to make the transition smooth and comfortable. Students usually report within a few weeks that they feel part of their new community.

List of 3 items.

  • No Hebrew? No Problem

Most students transferring into Rashi in the upper grades arrive with little or no Hebrew knowledge.

Students transferring into 1st and 2nd grade can comfortably enter into Hebrew class without additional support. Beginning in Grade 3, we offer a ‘catch-up’ Hebrew class called Mechina for new students until they are ready to transition into one of their grades’ three levels of Hebrew. There is an additional fee for this Mechina Hebrew program and financial assistance is available.
  • Social Transition

Applicants meet their prospective classmates during their full-day admissions visit to Rashi. During their visit, they have a buddy who hosts them for the day, introduces them to classmates, and shows them around the school.

Friendships often develop over the summer prior to entering Rashi. Our families are eager to reach out to new families to set up playdates and get-togethers.

Just before school begins, new and returning students and their families are invited to the Back-to-School Open House to visit their classroom, meet their teachers and socialize on the playground.
  • Staying in Touch with the Neighborhood

Many students who transfer to Rashi remain part of their communities through town sports and extracurricular activities.
