The Rashi School seeks a full-time Music Director for the 2018-2019 school year. Music is threaded throughout the school in formal music classes and through integration in the classrooms, prayer, and school programs.
Teaching 12 classes of K-5 music (2 sections per grade level) each week with a balance of performance, movement, composition, music theory, and music appreciation
Teaching 1 class each of chorus to grades 3 and 4
Teaching 1 middle school elective each trimester
Collaborating with the songleader and School Rabbi to ensure students are exposed to a deep repertoire of Jewish music for both prayer and holiday celebrations
Collaborating with the Theatre Director on the spring musicals for Lower and Middle School and on the integration of music in grade-level productions
Collaborating with classroom teachers and Hebrew teachers to integrate music into their curriculum
Participating in a weekly musical Shabbat celebration during school
Successful candidates will have an undergraduate or advanced degree in music or music education and 5-7 years of experience teaching music in a school setting to students in grades K-8. A passion for music education, and a deep knowledge of Jewish music are required. An ability to relate to students in grades K-8, and an outstanding ability to differentiate instruction and challenge all learners are essential. The ability to play piano and/or guitar is preferred.
