Parent Life

With kehillah (community) at the center of our values, parent life at Rashi is one of inclusion, warmth, and support. The Rashi community loves to get together to celebrate, support, learn, kvell, or just to socialize.  Whether school-sponsored events such as the Annual Dinner or events sponsored by Yachad, Rashi's Parent/Teacher Organization like the End-of-School picnic, grade-level socials, or just impromptu gatherings, the Rashi community is warm and welcoming.

The Rashi parent community is a fascinating collection of people from all over the world representing diverse backgrounds, Jewish beliefs, and professions.
Many life-long friendships are forged on the playgrounds and at Rashi's Kabbalat Shabbat services.

Volunteering

Rashi offers many opportunities for parents to get involved at the school through Yachad, our Parent Teacher Organization, through social justice opportunities, and through the Development and Admissions offices. The Rashi School’s community is enhanced by the involvement of parent volunteers who work to bring special programming to classrooms, enhance holiday celebrations at the school, and provide educational programming for other parents.

Family Education Programs

Family Education programs offer parents the opportunity to learn side-by-side with their children to develop a deeper understanding of Jewish values and traditions. Programs give parents the opportunities to explore, at an adult level, the Jewish Studies curriculum being taught in their child’s classroom.

Other Opportunities for Parents at Rashi

List of 3 items.

  • Kabbalat Shabbat

Prayer is an important part of what happens at Rashi. Once a week, we open up our services to parents and siblings. During services, children and adults develop a sense of spirituality, sing, and connect with the larger community.
  • Parent Forums

Clear communication between teachers, administrators, and parents is crucial in reaching goals for your children so we invite parents to attend grade-specific and general parent forums throughout the year in order to keep that line of communication open and clear.
  • Parent Education Programs

Yachad, our Parent/Teacher Organization, organizes lectures throughout the school year to provide a formal setting where lecturers from inside and outside of the Rashi community come to speak on myriad topics which have included paradigms surrounding allergies, and the importance of the family dinner.

Additonally, Rashi hosts adult education organizations like Parenting Through a Jewish Lens, where parents can attend weekly classes, conveniently scheduled around drop-off times at the school.

Social Justice Opportunities for Parents

Parents at Rashi are enthusiastic about participating in Social Justice opportunities with their children. Common ways for parents to get involved are volunteering alongside their children at Family Table, Cradles to Crayons, walking in the Walk for Hunger in the spring, or helping to organize facilitate the Rashi Purim Tamchui Project.
