Rashi’s Middle School soccer teams just wrapped up another impressive season!
Our girls team, made up of Grades 5-8, were red-hot right out of the gate, cruising to four straight wins over Boston Trinity, Schechter, and JCDS (2x) to open the season. The girls showed their strength in all facets of the game. Strong defense, excellent passing, deft finishing, and superb goaltending. They were about half way to their goal of an undefeated season when they visited Dedham Country Day for what we all knew would be one of their toughest games of the season.  On a cold and rainy October afternoon, our girls took a lead into halftime, but couldn’t hold on against a relentless attack and fell a goal short. The girls were disappointed with their first loss, but quickly turned things around with four more wins and a very intense and exciting tie versus Ursuline Academy, finishing the season with an incredible 8-1-1 record.
Our boys Middle School team got off to a slower start as they struggled to find their own identity after the graduation of ten starters from last year’s undefeated squad. Losses to Boston Trinity (2x) and Dedham Country Day left the boys with an 0-3 record, and perhaps a little doubt in their own abilities. After a little position shuffling and the call-up of two players from Grades 5 and 6 to shore up the defense, the boys found their identity and started playing some impressive soccer.  They recorded their first win over Sparhawk Academy in an intense, back and forth, one-goal game and then cruised to a victory over Schechter. The boys’ confidence was restored. They started playing tougher, more cohesive soccer and got better with every game. The boys never lost again and finished the year with an impressive 7-3 mark.
Our Grades 5 and 6 group of soccer players form the foundation of Rashi soccer’s future. This year’s large group of players practiced hard, and had many opportunities to show off their skills on the field throughout the season. Playing both in co-ed and single-gender games, this group showed a great deal of commitment, determination and perseverance as they worked to build their skills and understanding of the game. They won some, they lost some, they cheered their collective successes and were motivated by their collective challenges. It was inspiring to see their level of passion and excitement to play the game. We all look forward to next season!
