Celebrating the Joy of Reading

“You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.”

Dr. Suess

Rashi’s library was full of joy, concentration, and quiet reading voices this past Monday, when over 20 grandparents spent the morning reading books with our Kindergarten through Grade 2 students in celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

Across the country, thousands of schools and libraries brought together children and books to celebrate Read Across America Day. This was Rashi’s fourth year participating.

Grandparents came from near (Newton, Boston, Chestnut Hill, and others) and far (New York, Connecticut) to read to their grandchildren and classmates. Some were first-time participants, and some had come in past years and were excited to be back for more.

Some of the favorite books read this year included:

  • After the Fall by Dan Santat
  • Moon’s First Friends by Susanna Leonard Hill
  • Creepy Carrots  by Aaron Reynolds
  • Rosie Revere, Engineer by Andrea Beaty

Read Across America Day was a huge success, and we are already planning for next year!
