On Wednesday, May 16, more than 475 guests attended The Rashi School’s 2018 Annual Dinner at our new venue, the Boston Marriott Newton Hotel. This year’s dinner honored Heidi and Lew Pearlson (parents of Harrison ’14 and Joshua ’17) with the Kehillah Award in recognition of their leadership and ongoing commitment to Rashi and the Greater Boston Jewish community.
With poise and confidence, our Eighth Graders took on an expanded role at this year’s dinner. Leah K. and Jeremy G. delivered the keynote addresses that focused on contemporary Israel and the centrality of religion and community in Jewish identity. They were followed by classmates Danielle F., Estelle F., Maris B., and Henry N., who introduced various segments of the program.
The 2018 Tikkun Alum Award
Liza Comart ’06 received our 2018 Tikkun Alum Award. Recipients of the award are recognized for their dedication to social justice beyond their years at Rashi. They serve as role models and heroes to our students when we invite them to spend the day here at the school to teach about their work.
Liza sent a video message from Greece, where she is working with refugees. Her father, Kim Comart, accepted the award from Head of School Mallory Rome on her behalf.
Special Guests
Remarks by CJP President Barry Shrage paid tribute to honorees Heidi and Lew Pearlson, as did a surprise video message from friends and family.
The evening also included a musical collaboration produced especially for the dinner by alumna Tal Chafetz ’15, alumni parent Jodi Blankstein, and current parent Adam Dehner.
