Rashi Girls Take the Championship

This past Sunday (3/5), Rashi’s boys and girls Middle School basketball teams finished their seasons by playing in the annual JDSL (Jewish Day School League) tournament at Gann Academy.

Our boys team started the day with an 8:00AM semifinal game vs. Solomon Schechter. The two teams had split their regular season games so everyone was anticipating a close and intense game to determine who would go to the tournament final. The game did not disappoint. Neither team could take control and the lead switched hands throughout. It was a hard-fought and intense, with plenty of talent on both teams. Unfortunately, Schechter held the lead at the final buzzer, with Rashi’s boys coming up a little short of bringing home their second straight championship. Schechter would go on to win the tournament with an impressive win over JCDS in the final. Mazal tov to Eli S. (’23) for being named to the All-Tournament team.

Rashi’s girls team came into the tournament as the #1 seed with their only league loss during the season being against Maimonides, who they would face in the first round of the tournament.  Rashi’s girls used their signature, relentless full-court press to slowly take control of the game and were able to cruise into the final with a 6-point win. Their final opponent was JCDS, who had played our girls in two very close games during the regular season. Our girls were admittedly nervous, started the game out slowly, and fell behind early. However, they slowly got back into the game by turning up their defensive intensity and eventually took the lead going into halftime. After losing their lead at the beginning of the second half, the girls went on an impressive run to take it back, holding on for a 3 point victory and the tournament championship. This was the second JDSL championship in the last four years for Rashi’s girls team. Mazal tov to Charlotte R. (’23) and Hava M. (’23) for being named to the All-Tournament team.
