On October 3, 2025, Rashi’s Middle School students spent the day putting their values into action during our annual Social Justice Day of Service—a signature experience that connects classroom learning to the wider world.
Grade 6: Environmental Stewardship
Grade 6 headed to Friends of the Blue Hills, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting the Blue Hills Reservation’s natural beauty and habitats. Students helped clean the beach, explored the trails, and learned about the importance of environmental stewardship.

Grade 7: Sustainable Agriculture
Grade 7 visited The Food Project’s Baker Bridge Farm in Lincoln, where they planted and harvested garlic, walked the nearby farmland, and learned about sustainable agriculture that grows healthy food, supports communities, and develops young leaders.

Grade 8: Art as Activism
Grade 8 traveled downtown to HarborArts, an organization that uses public art as a platform for dialogue and activism. Students met with artists, explored monumental installations, and reflected on how creativity can inspire social change.

Living Our Values
Throughout the day, students embodied the school’s core values—justice, respect, learning, and community—by engaging deeply with organizations that are making a difference in our greater Boston community. Their experiences served as powerful reminders that repairing the world, tikkun olam, begins with small, meaningful acts of service.

Upcoming Service Learning Opportunity
In keeping with our values, and in honor of Veterans Day, The Rashi School is offering students in grades 1–7 and their trusted adults the opportunity to engage in an afternoon of service learning with our friends at Hebrew SeniorLife’s NewBridge on the Charles. Participants will learn from Rashi’s Social Justice Coordinator, Sally Rose Zuckert, about Rashi’s commitment to social justice, and then walk over to work alongside NewBridge residents on a service learning project.
